Volunteers Around the World (VAW) is an organization devoted to improving the built environment of those living in globally marginalized and under-resourced communes of our world. Our focus is to provide access to medical treatment and health resources in a manner that is culturally sensitive and ethically considerate.
Medical Brigade
Every semester, our club culminates by embarking on a two week medical brigade to a developing country. After learning about the host countries demographics and culture, we develop a public health project that will be sustainable for the community. In addition, we hire local doctors and station mobile clinic days through out the area. We shadow and assist the local doctors, perform triage, measure vitals, and most importantly, manage a student-run pharmacy, with all the medicines bought and paid for through our extensive fund raising.
Valuable Experience
Berkeley VAW gives you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in working with doctors and have a much deeper understanding of the medical field. If you are planning on becoming a nurse, physician or working in public health, then this club is a great stepping stone towards that goal!
